Leadership Institute Schedule

 

TRACK I: STUDENT LEADERSHIP: This is a series of skill based workshops specifically geared for student leaders to help them be effective while working with their peers and the broader community. The student leaders will reflect on and learn basic skills in leadership. Topics include:

  • Time Management Skills
  • Communication Skills
  • Facilitation / Presentation
  • Running Effective Meetings
  • Supervising Your Peers
  • Diversity
  • Team-building skills
  • Planning Your Events
  • Conflict Resolution

TRACK II: HEALTH AND SEXUALITY: Health and sexuality issues are traditionally taboo in Pacific island societies. This program will begin the discussion and review current research on health and sexuality in a way that enables students to understand the issues and make appropriate decisions. Topics include:

  • Alcohol, Tobacco, & other drugs
  • Stress Management
  • Suicide Prevention
  • Sexuality Education

TRACK III. COLLEGE SUCCESS: Readiness for a successful college experience goes beyond academic capabilities. While the academic courses at Xavier High School aim to prepare the students for academic success, this program will address the life issues, social skills, money matters, and other pertinent skills necessary for a productive first year college experience. Topics include:

  • Goal Setting
  • Self-Concept
  • Time management
  • Note-taking
  • Effective test-taking Skills
  • Improving Memory Skills
  • Learning Styles
  • Personality Profiles
  • Choosing Courses & Major
  • Relationship
  • Money Matters
  • Health & Wellness


TRACK IV: POLITICS AND CIVIC ENGAGEMENT: This program aims to educate students in the Jesuit tradition of “service of faith and promotion of justice" in a way that utilizes the community as a classroom. Students will discuss local politics and then assist the local government agencies, nonprofits or other officials with work. Topics include:

  • Micronesian Politics
  • Civic Engagement
