The Xavier High School Leadership Institute
was developed with the key principle that every individual has
the capacity to be a leader and effect positive change. Through
a series of skill based workshops, discussions, and experiential
learning, participants will challenge themselves to reach there
fullest potential. The Institute will give students an opportunity
to explore their development as competent, conscientious, and
compassionate leaders for their peers as well as the broader island
community.
GOAL:
The overall goal of the Xavier Leadership Institute is to provide
an opportunity for students to explore their development as competent,
conscientious, and compassionate leaders who work to effect positive
change.
OBJECTIVES:
Participants will:
- Identify their five most important
values
- Articulate their personal strengths and weaknesses.
- Identify characteristics of an effective
leader and articulate the impact they make
- Learn basic communication skills, including
conflict resolution
- Understand the importance of time management
and it’s effects on planning events.
- Learn and demonstrate group facilitation
skills
- Learn steps to effective decision-making
- Will discuss and be able to articulate how
culture impacts the leadership process
- Will learn about the following health topics
and will articulate how an individuals decision can impact themselves
and their community; alcohol, tobacco, stress management, suicide
prevention, and sexuality education.
- Learn techniques for effective note taking,
memory skills, and test taking.
- Understand the college application process
and how to chose a major for college
- Articulate the political climate in Micronesia
and ways in which they can impact their communities
- Participate in civic engagement activities
that involve the local community.
METHODOLOGY:
Xavier High School will support this leadership Institute by replacing
the regular class schedule/curriculum one day a month. The entire
day will be devoted to leadership development. All faculty will
assist with the presentation of material.
